Biodynamic: Going beyond organic

In our commitment to people and the planet, we take what it means to be organic a step further.

All of our farmers use biodynamic agriculture. This is a sustainable form of agriculture where animals, crops, and soil are treated holistically as a single living system without introducing any outside fertilizers.

Our cotton farms are certified biodynamic by the Demeter international standard.

Carbon Neutral & Eco-Friendly Operations

Under the Nile is a carbon neutral company. We actively counterbalance our CO2 emissions through the innovative  Economy of Love carbon credits system, focusing on vital tree planting and desert transformation initiatives in Egypt. By selling unused carbon credits, we not only achieve carbon neutrality but also directly support Egyptian farmers and promote sustainable practices across the region.

Our dedication extends to every aspect of our operations, including recycling wastewater and utilizing renewable energy sources. These efforts underscore our holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

Our Carbon Credits System

1

The carbon footprint of each farm is calculated. Then the ecosystem services that the farm provides, such as planting trees to sequester carbon, are valued in the form of carbon credits.

2

The nonprofit Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA) handles the sale of carbon credits to large companies that want to offset their carbon footprint and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.

3

The EBDA distributes 80% of the revenue from carbon credits back to the farmers. This ensures that the credits are not used to increase the profits of traders or speculators and are only used to reward those who are actively working to mitigate climate change.

In 2022, we planted a total of 370,000 trees.
